Sonoco Poland - Improving the Effectiveness of the Managerial Team

Sonoco is the world’s eight largest manufacturer of packaging. It employs 17,500 people in thirty–six countries. Sonoco Poland Packaging Services LPC operates in the packaging services sector. The company started up a modern manufacturing plant in 2005 in the Łódź Economic Zone complex.

The Sonoco company in Poland is developing at lightning speed. It hired about 1,000 workers within three years. Such rapid growth brings with it many challenges. One of these turned out to be collaboration with the highest level managers who came to the company with a hodgepodge of experiences, habits, and working styles from their previous companies whose management culture was also extremely varied. 

“We believe that an efficient and integrated company management is the basis for building an organization that is capable of attracting and employing the best people. It is for this reason that we launched a thought–through process for the long–term development of the managerial team in our company,” said Dorota Michalec, HR Director for Sonoco Poland. 

Time for Team consultants recommended that Sonoco implement two parallel projects:

• A program for improving the efficiency of the top management team, and
• A development program for the lower and middle management—“Young Tigers.” 

Both programs included a diagnosis of the natural potential of participants using the Extended DISC® methodology.
